OMA Man of The Month! May

Dimitri, 19

1.) First off, are you aware of anything that has to do with natural hair?
Yeah I guess I know enough lol

2.) So, how do you feel about a girl with an afro?
Hmmm... As long as the girl maintains it, and it doesn't look ridiculous, I think it can be attractive. For guys who like girls with the wild look. [Roxy: Do you like girls with the wild look?] Meh, it all depends on the girl really. I'm usually attracted to girls who wear their hair straight or wavy, so the wild look would be new to me.

3.) What are you attracted to, mainly physically, in a girl?
Hmmmm, you know, nice personality, loves Jesus, etc. etc. Physically though... for me, I love a very pretty face. It's by far the most important thing for me. I rather slim girls and can't be really lacking too much when it comes to curves. For the most part, black or brown hair, straight or wavy with brown or hazel eyes.  More attracted to light skin and tan to really dark skin. Yeah... I think that's about it lol.

4.) How do you feel about girls with weave?
Uhhh weave... Honestly, I'm not a fan of weave at all, but sometimes I guess some girls need it to help the hair grow?... Well that's what they say at least. As long as it's not there to stay and it's like one time when you cut your hair to go natural then it's okay. I really don't like weave though lol

5.) Would you prefer to run your fingers through your girl's hair or grab it?
I prefer to run my fingers through it. Maybe it's just because I'm used to it? Girls hair to me is one of the most elegant things physically. So I like to treat it that way...

6.) What matters most, how her hair smells or how her hair feels?
Now that's a really good question... wow that's a hard one..... Ummmmm hmmmm probably the way it smells.... I don't know, when a girl's hair smells good they're like instantly more attractive to me haha, I'm a sucker for that. But the way it feels is a close second.

7.) How do you feel about girls who go bald for the sake of being natural?
I like it! Now I don't like the "bald" state but when their hair starts to grow out it's well worth it lol. Natural hair over perms any day!
o
8.) How do you feel about a girl who has extremely kinky hair versus a girl with loose curls.
I don't like kinky hair at all honestly. So I would definitely chose loose curls over it any day.
o
9.) Would you prefer an extreme amount of hairstyles or the same two or three hairstyles all the time?
I prefer the same two or three. I like consistency. Of course when there's a big event I don't mind the fancy hairstyles but most of the time just two or three simple hairstyles will do.
o
10.) How do you feel about color?
It all depends on the color. If it's like a rainbow then noooooo. If it's like a weird color: no. HIghlights are okay, and like from going blonde to brunette is fine. Really all depends on how it looks on the person. For the most part though, I prefer natural hair color.

11.) If your girlfriend is thinking about going natural would you encourage or discourage it? Big chop, slow transition, or weave?
Big chop, because it's better to just get it over with. I won't like it at first of course because I like long hair. But, I can deal with it because it will grow back. NO weave lol.

12.) Are you more discouraging of different skin tones going natural?

Nope, makes absolutely no difference to me. Natural hair almost always looks better regardless of the skin tone.

Thank you so much for your time Dimitri!

DOVE Nourishing Oil Care Detangler REVIEW!

I REALLLLLLYYYYY like this product so I'm excited to share with you this review! :)

Dove Hair Therapy Nourishing Oil Care Detangler
With Weightless Nutri-Oils Argan Oil Blend

Roxy's REVIEW:
As you probably know by now, I stress a lot about products NEEDING to do their job AND smelling awesome because yummy smells make me happy. Well, this product has IT GOING ON!! I love it, I seriously do. It has a soft smell that will perfume and freshen your hair and it is seriously pleasant to the nose of everyone :) My hair, like many of us, can dry out pretty quick as the days go by and this product will give it that soft boost it needs for me to manage a quick hairstyle and run out the door! Make sure to shake the bottle VERY well first because the oils need to mix to have to total effect. This detangler contains ARGAN OIL which is one of my favorites and ALMOND oil which gives it an amazing SHINE! The only "con" about this product is that the bottle is pretty slim and small and I had to learn to use less than I want to try to make it last. I totally recommend it. This product will be super-helpful on any type of hair, but make sure to use less if your hair is naturally straight. If you got a 'fro like me: SPRAY THAT BABY!
Price: $6

**Style Watch** - Dry-Twist out

Salut tout le monde! :)
It's been too long! I'm in my finals week so it's been very hectic for me, but i still found some time to do a hairstyle over the weekend that I'd like to share!
side view

my lion has been tamed temporarily
Ok! So my twists look longer no? I blow-dried my hair! Due to a very unfortunate event that has left one of my fingers out of service, i could not pursue my hair routine with as much fervor as I've had in the past lol so I blow-dried my hair on low heat, sealed in that moisture with my shea butter/jojoba oil and mix and twisted about 15-20 twists and left it like so. I took it out for church, retwisted, took it down monday, and retwisted again. It's really simple, and doesn't take long at all. The significant difference I noticed is basically length, and the fact that my hair actually fell past my shoulder. Lovely experience, but can't wait to wet it again! Ciao!

PANTENE: Ice Shine REVIEW!

Pantene Pro-V Ice Shine Silicon Free Shampoo:
Silicone Free, Dye Free, Paraben Free

Claims and directions:
DO YOU HAVE: Hair that looks lifeless and lacks shine?
BUT YOU WANT: Healthy-looking hair with gorgeous shine? Then Pantene Pro-V Ice Shine Enhancers is for you!

Pantene's steps to achieving an all-day ice like shine on your hair:
Step 1: Ice Shine Shampoo removes the dirt and residue that can reduce shine.
Step 2: Ice Shine Conditioner smoothes the surface of the hair strands, leaving hair conditioned and shining with the look of health.
Directions: Massage into wet hair to create lather. Rinse. This system is gentle enough for use on permed or colored-treated hair.

Roxy's review:
I gotta say I do like this shampoo because the shine is INCREDIBLE.
They are not kidding when they say it will make your hair shine.
BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a HUGE BUT!!
Because this shampoo will leave your hair so light without any silicone weight-- you will experience the worst shrinkage of your LIFE! I don't really mind shrinkage too much; but if you do hate your shrinkage, this shampoo is NOT for you!!
Great shine but it comes with the price of shrinkage.
Have you tried it? What do you think of this product?

Much Afro Love,

Roxy

The Perfect Deep Conditioner for the Summer!

Hey natural beauties!! So sorry for not posting as often as I should! I have a LOT of new stuff coming, so check us out every week, we have so many new products to tell you of!

The summer is (practically) HERE!!! Yayy!!
During the summer we are very exposed to chemicals from pools, intense sunlight (if you're here in florida!), the beach and sand!! It's a great time for us, but many times a rough time for our hair! I recently went to the beach and did this deep conditioner a couple of days before to make sure it was properly nourished.

Note: This D.C will do it's magic on straight hair too, so if you don't have an afro, still go for it! Your hair will be thoroughly protected!!

Roxy's Super Summer Deep Conditioner:

*Olive Oil (2/3 of a cup)

*Honey (2 table spoons)

*Mayo (1/2 cup) --even more AWESOME if its made with Olive Oil!

*Olive Oil Replenishing Pak (1 pak is plenty)

*Hello Hydration Conditioner (a hand full) --or YOUR favorite conditioner! Whatever you love!

*2 eggs (both the yolk and the whites included)

Mix them all up together as much as you can until its blended. You might see some mayo clumps-- that's fine! But everything else needs to be properly blended.

Wash your hair as usual. Rinse out the shampoo, and carefully begin pouring the Deep Conditioner all over your hair. Not too much on your scalp, more towards the bottom half but spread it everywhere. Wash whatever fell on your body off, and place a shower cap over your hair. Wrap it with a towel or a bandana and leave in for about 1 hour (although I left mine in for two hours! However long you can leave it in is fine). Rinse it out well, apply your favorite conditioner again on your hair, detangle, rinse, and you are READY FOR THE BEACH FUN!!!! Both you and your hair will be STUNNING!

Have fun and take some pictures!!

The Importance of Deep Conditioning

Land of the Deep Conditioner

Bonjour! Ok, so I don't know why I chose to speak on deep conditioning when I fail all the time lol but I'm trying so you can too! Deep conditioners have a lot of myths behind them, such as repairing damaged hair, or improve curl patterns or whatever other crazy things i've heard. However, deep conditioners do work miracles in the sense that they help smooth the cuticle, giving hair a smooth, sleek and shiny appearance. For me, it helps battle dryness and gives my hair the full, shiny and moisture filled look. So if you want to know more about deep conditioners, enter in.

Twist out after Deep Conditioning/Wash routine!

Still day one!

Deep conditioners can do MIRACLES for hair that feels rough or dry. It can greatly improve the quality of your hair, whether you do it once a week or twice a month. Some people don't find it necessary, but hey, it doesn't hurt to have lovely luscious and moisturized hair. When your hair quality is improved, the amount of damage done to your hair can be greatly reduced, and you'll find increased shine, manageability, and strength in your strands. For those who don't do protective styling, deep conditioners can serve as extra preventative measure to "protect your hair" since it's continuously exposed to the elements. Some people go as far to do protein treatments to strengthen their strands, but I'm too lazy for all of that. Sorry lol

My favorite D.C's are homemade, although I do occasionally use Giovanni's Smooth as Silk Deeper Moisture Conditioner (I'm trying to finish the giant bottle, sigh). I do oil treatments that include castor oil, jojoba oil and coconut oil or , egg and honey treatments with olive oil. All of these treatments can be found easily online at http://homemadedeepconditioner.com/, however I do recommend putting a plastic cap and using external heat sources or your own body heat to allow the deep conditioner to work its miracle. If you don't notice a change in your hair's moisture levels, or even the way it feels, go out and try some creams/store products! Trust me, the benefits are something you'd want to reap. Ill be sure to post deep conditioner reviews in the near future ;) Until then, Ciao!

Deep Conditioning also makes you Fierce!

*Style Watch* - Curly Twists

Bonjour!

So on Saturday I decided to do my hair in curly twists. On thursday (hair wash day) I did so much that was out of the ordinary for me yet soothing for my hair. I put yogurt in my hair!! And still managed to strut around ;) After that I washed/conditioned as usual in 12 twisted sections this time, and then to style I did 5 twists per section leaving me with 60 twists (I'm very meticulous). Well, I saw nikkimae2003 from youtube do a style that I had previously done before and I decided to revisit it with a twist, pinning all my hair on one side.
 Here's her tutorial:

The amount of hands that found their way into my hair was startling! Never had so many hands pulled and touched and caressed my hair like yesterday!

After a long day of being pulled

Jewish Roots! Right curl hangs ;)

Seriously thinking about investing in a shirt like this. Not green of course. :-* xoxo
Don't Touch Period! lol
