Heavenly Review - Luv Naturals

Bonjour dolls!
I think on my break away from Oh My Afro (due to school, I'd never neglect my babies), I have found the holy grail of natural products.
Ok, maybe not that Extreme but these products sure work like they were sent straight from Heaven.

 Introducing:

Luv Naturals
Now, Luv Naturals was created by the you tuber who walked me through my entire natural process, Kim Love (kimmaytube). It is a 4-step process, So I'll review them one-by-one. First up! *Drum roll*

Step 1: Don't Be So Clingy: Hair Detangler

Claims:
  • Helps to release knots, tangles and shed hairs (which help to prevent hair breakage)
  • pH balanced to help reduce breakage caused by clingy hair (4.0 - 4.5 pH)
  • Naturally derived and organic ingredients
  • No artificial fragrances
  • No artificial colors
  • Food grade preservatives
  • Shelf life is 1 year from purchase date
  • Size: 8 fluid ounces / 236 ml
  • Highly concentrated. A little goes a long way (for normal density /medium length hair on a weekly routine, one bottle will last approximately 2 months or 8 detangling sessions)
Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Citrus sinensis (Orange, Sweet) Essential Oil, Ulmus fulva (Slippery Elm) Extract, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Mangifera indica (Mango) Butter, Corylus avellana (Hazelnut) Oil, Olea europaea (Organic Olive) Extra Virgin Oil, Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Oil, Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Organic Oil, Brassica oleracea italica (Broccoli) Seed Oil, Acrylic Polymers, Glucono Delta Lactone, Sodium Benzoate, Calcium Gluconate, Mica

Review: I have no idea how she did it, or what she put in it, but never, and I mean NEVER, has any detangler or conditioner melted away my knots like this has. Usually during my detangling session, at least one knot will be taking up all of my time to get it out, and sometimes it may even lead to scissor. This detangler blew me away when I put it straight on a knot because i watched the knot unfold as I passed my hand through it a couple of times. For my tightly curly/coiled hair naturals, I know you understand me when I say that's crazy. This thing is off the charts, it broke my rating box. Even though it is pricey, it is true that the product lasts, so it's worth it to me. 6 stars!

Step 2: "Wash Me Gently" - Hair & Scalp Cleanser

For Ingredients and Claims Visit: http://www.luvnaturals.com/collections/hair-care-products/products/shampoo

Review: Now, what caught me off guard with this cleanser is the fact that it does not lather. Oh, and it smells like peppermint which is fine because my bathroom ends up smelling like a candy store..lol. This cleanser is great because not only does it not lather, but it also has slip, so your hair stays detangled after Step 1. My hair stays cleaned, doesn't feel stripped, and stays detangled. I think that earns this 5 stars, don't you?

Skip Step 3, "Conditional Love" - Hair Conditioner was sold out lol

Finally, Step 4 " Love Me & Leave-In Conditioner"

For Ingredients and Claims Visit: http://www.luvnaturals.com/collections/hair-care-products/products/leave-in-conditioner

Review: My oh my, ladies, this leave - in right here. Please buy it. It melts in your hair, smells like strawberries, leaves your hair moisturized for days. I mean, isn't that what a leave in is supposed to do? Dolls, this line is amazing point blank. But for this specific Leave - in, I put it on my hair and follow with Beija Flor Creme Brûlée. What is feels like...well....a match made in heaven is all that comes to mind. Have you seen how many times I've used heaven in this post? I'm in lala land. Anyways, here are some pictures from the results of using these products + Beija Flor and doing a twist & curl.

Amazing Definition!!!
Definitely Worth the purchase loves, and It lasts! Let me know what you think of this line if you've ever tried it. Ciao!

Review: All I have to say is....this leave-in is a staple. It shall stick with me as long as they continue to ship it to my house. It smells like heaven came down and settled right in my hair. Seriously, when I first used it the person who did my hair kept sniffing it lol don't get me started on literally walking past people and having them break their necks to ask who smells so good!? The consistency in this product is AMAZING. Every use has been a one hit wonder. Since I've used it, my twists are fluffy, outrageously well defined, and they stay moisturized for SUCH a long time. So this will be with me for the long run. And just remember, if something works, stick with it. Don't fix what's not broken, and trust me, creme brûlée isn't going ANYWHERE ;)

OMA Man of the Month: Curtis!!

Curtis, 20

1.) First off, are you aware of anything that has to do with natural hair? [Dated any girls with natural hair? Have family that rock their natural hair or avoid it?]
Ive dated girls wit natural hair but nobody in my family Rocks natural hair

2.) So, how do you feel about a girl with an afro?
Some women can pull it off but not all. [Would an afro stop you from dating a girl?] No, I find it very attractive on most females. I guess it depends on the female

3.) What are you attracted to, mainly physically, in a girl?
How she dresses, her smile & body

4.) How do you feel about girls with weave?
I don't mind it as long as its neat & looks nice on them

5.) Would you prefer to run your fingers through your girl's hair or grab it?
Freaky haha but I would say both, depending in how I'm feeling that day haha

6.) What matters most, how her hair smells or how her hair feels?
haha I'm gonna say smells because I wouldn't want to be with someone all the time & they smell

7.) How do you feel about girls who go bald for the sake of being natural?
I feel like not all women can go bald for the simple reason that not all women have the head for it

8.) How do you feel about a girl who has extremely kinky hair versus a girl with loose curls.
I prefer loose curls over kinky because to me it jus looks better

9.) Would you prefer an extreme amount of hairstyles or the same two or three hairstyles all the time?
I would prefer the same 2 or 3

10.) How do you feel about color?
I don't really like color

11.) If your girlfriend is thinking about going natural would you encourage or discourage it? Big chop, slow transition, or weave?
I would encourage her & you gotta explain those to me haha
[Big chop is cutting off all her hair like practically bald or a #1.
slow transition is growing her natural afro without cutting any hair so you'll see two textures in her hair... natural nappy roots and the ends are straight...
weave.. you know what a weave is lol]
Haha I would say slow transition then

12.) Are you more discouraging of different skin tones going natural?
Yea I am but it jus really depends on the female & how she dresses to me
[which skin tone would prefer to not go natural?]
Brown bones & light skin. But some dark skin girls are beautiful natural

Product Review: Not Too Excited About this one =/

Hey beautiful ladies!!

Like I said, I've been trying out different deep conditioners, and this week I tried this one.... and unfortunately...wasn't too happy with it. It didn't leave my hair hard, but it didn't leave it too soft either. I definitely won't be purchasing this again :(
I'm not saying it's a BAD product.... it's just that this specific masque didn't meet up to what I was expecting or what I have seen other products do for my hair.

Washed my hair first to wash off all the products I put on
in the past days...

I actually was pretty excited for this product

I put it on my ends mostly, that's why the top looks dry
What it looked like. My hair somehow absorbed it pretty quickly
Covered it with my handy cap :)

This is the final result. Eh

I had left it in for a WHILE. I'm guessing like 6 hours?

Eh.

Keep checking our new posts for more reviews of stuff you may want to buy (or not buy!) :)

Product Review: Cheapest Sale Price and It Was Worth It!

Hey ladies!!

I went to Sally's the other day and at the check out the cashier offered one of those sales that sounds ridiculously cheap and leads me to think something MUST be wrong with the product. The price of $5 seemed so cheap I succumbed and brought it home with me. After washing my hair, I expected to spray this on and have it do absolutely NOTHING to my hair.....but au contraire....I LOVED IT!! :)

-Smells great (check!)
-My hair felt soft (check!)
-Wasn't greasy (check!)
-Felt good on my scalp (check!)
-Made my hair easier to manage for a couple of days (check!)

WHAT?!?! <-- My reaction to the cheapest product I had ever bought. So cheap and did a good job!!

I totally recommend it if you want a good cheap-y product to keep for those moments you want something on your hair but don't need a spectacular product. I keep it near for those (many) days I just want my hair in a puff and walk out feeling comfortable to do what I need to do.

Read below for the complete information of this cutie product ;)
$5 at Sally's (On sale)
Claims:
Hawaiian Silky Miracle Worker 14 in 1 is the very best product for protecting and maintaining your hairstyle.  This versatile product can be used as a curl activator and moisturizer on natural curls and perm waved hair and a leave in conditioner for relaxed, natural and braided hair.  This non-greasy, non-staining formula helps to soften and detangle hair while soothing the scalp and healing abrasions leaving a vibrant sheen.

OMA Man of the Month: Quens!!

Quens, 20

1.) First off, are you aware of anything that has to do with natural hair?
Well no, not much [Roxy: Yes he does, he's just being humble lol]

2.) So, how do you feel about a girl with an afro?
Well it depends, is it a curly afro? [Roxy: Yes, either curly or nappy: a natural afro]. I’m all for the girls with the nice clean curly fro specially if it’s all natural.

3.) What are you attracted to, mainly physically, in a girl?
LOL, ha. A pretty proportionate face, nice lips and a gorgeous smile. [Roxy: What about hair?] Oh lol, yeah I am all for curly hair. NO WEAVE. Don’t really mind if it’s natural or not.

4.) How do you feel about girls with weave?
Girls with weave either use a weave either to cover up something that went wrong, convenience, or to get the look that they want without the hard work. Either way it’s not my favorite.

5.) Would you prefer to run your fingers through your girl's hair or grab it?
Well, yeah, run my fingers

6.) What matters most, how her hair smells or how her hair feels?
Definitely how her hair smells. Well no: it’s 50/50. Lol, no: feel. But I can’t put my hands in something that stinks.

7.) How do you feel about girls who go bald for the sake of being natural?
I think they’re brave lol

8.) How do you feel about a girl who has extremely kinky hair versus a girl with loose curls.
Loose curls

9.) Would you prefer an abundant amount of hairstyles or the same two or three hairstyles all the time?
Two or three. That’s a safe number. Keep random crazy hair styles away.

10.) How do you feel about color?
Color depends on the person. I don’t think any color that’s part of the rainbow should be on someone’s hair.

11.) If your girlfriend is thinking about going natural would you encourage or discourage it? Big chop, slow transition, or weave?
I’ll encourage the slow transition.

12.) Are you more discouraging of different skin tones going natural?
No, I don’t think going natural has anything to do with your skin tone.

Thank you Quens!

Visual PROOF!!!

Heyyyyy ladies!!!

Alright, let me tell you that my hair was DRY. I don't know what happened to me, I let myself go for a second. Never again. My hair felt like carpet. Very bad.
SO! I decided to do my super cool summer deep conditioner and leave it in for 3 hours, and the proof is in the pudding! (Well, the mayo in this case...)

Here are the pictures of before-during-after for you to see :)

Look at this madness!

This is carpet, CARPET I tell you!

Disgusting.

I completely let myself go.

I'm ashamed to even show this

Put the whole mess in my hair and covered it with this aluminum cap. It's supposed
to use my own body heat and do something. Can't say much for that, besides
that it's the only cap where my whole head fits :)

I smelled like food, that's the only downside.

My hair DRANK THIS UP!!

So this is how it began....

I decided to maximize my time and do a facial while I was
at it ;)

LOOK AT THIS!

My hair looks alive again!

I need to do this more often

The carpet has become hair once again!

Have you deep conditioned yet?

Yes, of course, my hair was wet so take into consideration some of the shine comes from the water. But you can totally see the difference!! After it dried, it's feeling SO SOFT! I can't keep my hands off of it! My little conditioner cocktail works for me :) Have you tried it?

Here's the link to get the secret ingredients:

The Ten [Questions] For Transitioners! With: Brittany R.

Brittany Reginna

18, College student

1.) How long have you been transitioning (since when)?
Since last October

2.) What made you want to transition?

Im tired of wearing extensions or putting chemicals through my hair. My sister was already planning on doing it

3.) How did you manage your hair before taking the transition journey?

Always straightening/relaxing my hair. If not that then putting extensions in my hair

4.) What is the goal you are aiming for?

To have my hair grow to mid back

5.) What is your hair care regimen now through this transition?

I still wear extensions but I never relax nor straighten my hair. I keep it in braids while my extensions are in and I wash my hair with the extensions every week using cold water, a lot of conditioner and little shampoo (hot water and shampoo dries out the hair). After a month the extensions come out so I can take the braids out and wash my hair freely, still using cold water and such. I put leave in conditioner in my hair and braid it back up, making sure to cut off any long strands.

6.)How have your friends/boyfriends/family responded to your transition?

My family loves the idea and they are joining along also. My friends dont really understand since I mainly have white friends haha But my black friends also love the idea and give me props for trying. My boyfriend is proud Im getting away from artificial means of handling my hair. He loves it natural

7.) Have struggles have you encountered through this time?

Its hard to keep taking out the extensions every month because it's usually 3 months but I know its worth it since my hair is growing well

8.) How do you see your hair 3 years from today?

In three years, I see my hair grown to mid back and even longer with healthy volume

9.) If you could give one piece of advice to someone thinking of beginning to transition, what would you say?

Don't be afraid to break from society's idea of "beauty" because there's nothing more beautiful than the natural way God made you

10.) If you were to title this transitioning experience (like a movie or book title) what would you call it?

Just Being Me

Thank you Brittany,
We wish you the best in this beautiful journey!
God bless you!

If you are also transitioning and would like to be featured in Oh My Afro, let us know at ohmyafro@gmail.com.

2012 Hair growth Tracking (So far...)

Hey ladies!!

Every so often, after I detangle my hair perfectly in the shower, I take a picture to be able to keep track of my growth. I saw a crazy rapid growth this last month, and going through my phone pics, I was able to see it much clearer. Here are some of the pics with the dates. Do you see crazy growth too, or am I getting too excited? LOL.

NOTE: These are not my prettiest pictures, please attempt your best to overlook it ;)

January 2012

March 2012

April 2012,
right after I cut my hair 1.5 inches

April 2012

July 2012,
most recent picture.

I'm hoping I don't have to cut it anytime soon, I really want is long enough to reach my mid-back (that's the crazy olympic goal).
But I'll be more than satisfied if it at least passes my shoulders.

Send us your pictures! We'd love to post your growth :)

I was let down by a deep conditioner

Hey beautiful ladies!

So my hair was feeling dry, and I thought of trying some new products. I went to Sally's to get many different little deep-conditioner trial packs to see which I liked, and of course, give you the inside scoop.

Product Tested:

NUTRESS HAIR
Moisturizing Protein Pack
For extremely damaged hair

Roxy's Review:
This product did not work on my hair at ALL! Good thing I bought the little pack and not the big bottle because it didn't work for me at all. I used TWO little packs and left it on all day under a heat cap and NOTHING.
So my review, if you see this product, look away and try something else because it didn't do what it "promised" to do.

Much love!

Traveler's Tale!

Bonjour!
It's that time of year again my friend, the time where I either set sail or take flight. My adventures will eventually lead me around the world, but for now I take God's blessings one flight at a time. ;) As you know, I never let my hair out when I travel. If I do let my hair down, it's because I know I'll be in a setting where I can take care of my hair properly like I would at home. This time around, I had a wonderful lovely friend (Shout out to Jennifer!!)  of mine unleash her creativity on my hair. Little did I know she would produce the art on my head that she did. I'm still blown away by her awesomeness lol enjoy :)

I couldn't even comprehend what she had done to my hair lol I'm just so thankful for her skilled hands. Hope you enjoyed! :-* Ciao.
